Pre-Cocking
Pre-cocking is a control setting, mostly on HPA and some mechanical setups, that primes part of the firing cycle in advance to cut the delay between trigger pull and shot.
On an HPA engine, pre-cocking opens the solenoid partway or pre-charges a chamber ahead of the trigger pull actually being registered, so less has to happen electronically between input and output. The result is a near-instant trigger response that mechanical gearboxes can't fully match.
The trade-off is a small continuous air draw even when not firing, and a control board complex enough to manage the timing safely. It's mostly a speedsoft and competitive feature, where shaving milliseconds off a shot's reaction time is worth the added system complexity.
It's worth checking a field's rules before relying on it competitively, since a small minority of strict skirmish or league formats restrict pre-cocking specifically because it can blur into the territory of true burst-fire automation.
