Bipod

A bipod folds down from the handguard or barrel to give a stable, ground- or rest-supported firing position, mainly used on DMR and support-gun builds.

Legs typically adjust for height and can pivot or tilt slightly to level the gun on uneven ground, letting a shooter take a stable prone or braced position without holding the full weight of the gun and any attached optic on arms alone through a long engagement.

The tactical value is highest for roles that hold a static position and take deliberate shots — DMR and LMG roles most obviously — while a fast-moving CQB loadout gets little benefit and mostly just adds unwanted weight and snag risk to a compact gun.

Folding it flush against the handguard rather than leaving it deployed while moving is worth building as a habit, since deployed legs catch on brush, doorframes and gear in a way that's easy to forget about mid-engagement.
