Hi-Cap Magazine

Also called: high-capacity magazine

A hi-cap magazine holds several hundred BBs and uses a geared winder to feed them, trading realism for far fewer reloads during a firefight.

Winding the base or a side dial tightens an internal spring that continuously pushes BBs up as they're fired, so a hi-cap needs periodic rewinding but never runs out mid-magazine the way a fixed-follower design can if under-wound; a full wind typically outlasts the magazine's whole capacity.

The trade-off beyond realism is the audible rattle of loose BBs shifting inside the reservoir, which milsim events often ban for both immersion and noise-discipline reasons. Newcomers usually start with hi-caps for the convenience before moving toward mid-cap magazines as they get more comfortable managing reloads.

A habit worth building is winding a hi-cap fully before every game rather than only when it feels light, since a magazine that runs dry mid-firefight because of a partial wind is a self-inflicted and easily avoided problem.
