Objective-Based Game
An objective-based game scores or ends around specific in-game tasks — capture a point, escort a VIP, plant a device — rather than simply eliminating the other team.
Objectives give a scenario shape beyond straightforward elimination: a team might need to hold a location for a set time, extract an item from a marked zone, or complete a sequence of linked tasks, with success measured against the mission rather than just kill counts.
This format rewards planning and role specialisation — someone watching a flank, someone on comms, someone carrying the objective item — which is why it's the backbone of most MilSim scenario design, even though simpler versions run fine at a regular skirmish day too.
Briefing the whole team on the objective before the game starts, not partway through, is what actually makes this format work — a well-designed mission still fails if half the team never understood what they were meant to be doing.
