Site Joule Limits

Beyond the national legal ceiling, individual fields set their own — often lower — joule limits per gun category, tuned to their site's layout and the kind of play they run.

A CQB-focused indoor site typically sets a noticeably lower limit than an open outdoor field, since close engagement distances make the same energy hurt more; some fields also set separate, higher limits for DMR roles, gated behind extra chrono checks and a longer minimum engagement distance.

Because these limits are field policy rather than a single external law, they need checking every time a player visits a new site rather than assumed from experience elsewhere — bringing a gun tuned to one field's maximum to a stricter site is a common and entirely avoidable reason for a gun to fail chrono. This is general information, not legal advice — always confirm current requirements with your national authority and your field before you buy, carry or play.

Some players keep a small logbook of which gun passed which field's limit at what setting, which sounds excessive until the second or third time a forgotten regulator setting causes an unnecessary chrono failure at a new site.
