Plate Carrier
A plate carrier is a vest built around front and back pockets for rigid plates, with [MOLLE](/glossary/molle) webbing outside to mount pouches and other gear.
Cut styles vary from full-coverage designs down to low-profile, cut-down chassis meant to sit under a jacket, but the core layout stays the same: a pocket sized for a rectangular plate front and back, adjustable cummerbund or side straps, and shoulder straps that carry most of the loaded weight.
In airsoft the "plates" carried are almost always foam or lightweight inserts rather than real ballistic protection — the shape and weight distribution is what players want, not stopping power — and the same carrier doubles as the anchor point for a loadout's MOLLE-mounted pouches, admin panels and hydration setup.
Fit matters more than most first-time buyers expect: a carrier that rides too high chokes the neck on a prone position, while one riding too low interferes with a battle belt, so trying one on loaded is worth more than the size chart alone.
