Respawn
Respawn is returning to play after being hit, typically by walking back to a designated point — the mechanic that keeps skirmish games fast-paced rather than one-life eliminations.
A hit player usually calls it, shows a dead rag or raises a hand, walks to the field's respawn point without engaging anyone en route, and rejoins play after a set delay or immediately, depending on the ruleset in use for that game.
Respawn rules are one of the biggest differences between casual and serious formats: skirmish games usually allow quick, frequent respawns to keep everyone shooting, while MilSim events often replace respawn with limited lives or DTD, making every hit carry real weight.
Some fields add a short mandatory delay even after reaching the respawn point specifically to prevent someone sprinting straight back into the same firefight they just left, which would otherwise undercut the whole point of taking a hit.
