Mesh vs. Lens
Mesh and solid-lens face protection both stop BBs, but trade fog resistance, field of view and airflow against each other in opposite directions.
Wire mesh masks can't fog because air passes through freely, and they hold up well to hard hits without scratching, but the mesh itself slightly reduces visual clarity and, on some designs, blocks a bit of peripheral vision compared to an open lens.
Solid lenses give a clearer, unobstructed view and usually a lower profile, but heavy breathing or exertion causes fogging unless the lens has anti-fog coating or ventilation built in — a real problem in a CQB firefight when clear sight is exactly what's needed most. Many serious players pick mesh specifically to eliminate the fogging risk entirely, accepting the slight visual trade-off.
Some players carry both and switch depending on conditions — mesh for hot, high-exertion outdoor days, a lens for cold or low-light games where fogging is less of a risk — rather than committing to one permanently.
