Comms / PTT

Also called: push-to-talk

A PTT (push-to-talk) unit lets a player key a radio without pulling it out, usually via a button on a chest strap wired to a headset — critical for team coordination without breaking cover.

The radio itself typically clips to a plate carrier or belt, out of the way, while a PTT cable and button run to somewhere the hand can reach without letting go of the weapon, and to a headset that lets a player hear team traffic even under hearing protection or a helmet.

Good comms discipline — short, clear callouts, not constant chatter — matters more than expensive hardware for actually winning objective-based games, since coordinated pushes and covering fire depend entirely on the team knowing what's happening in real time rather than after the fact.

Testing the whole chain — radio, cable, PTT button, headset — as one assembled system before game day catches loose connections far more reliably than checking each part individually, since most comms failures happen at a connector, not inside a single component.
