Tamiya Connector
The Tamiya connector is the older, boxier two-pin plug most AEGs shipped with by default, now considered a bottleneck on higher-draw upgraded builds.
Originally standard from RC hobby applications, the Tamiya plug's thinner internal contacts and looser fit limit how much continuous current it can pass compared to bullet-style connectors, and it's more prone to melting or arcing under sustained high draw.
It remains fine for stock or lightly upgraded AEGs running NiMH packs, which is why factory guns still ship with it, but most technicians recommend swapping to a Deans or T-plug connector as soon as a build moves to a high-C LiPo and stronger motor.
A telltale sign of a connector at its limit is warmth or discoloration at the plug after heavy use, worth checking on any gun that still runs Tamiya under a meaningfully upgraded motor and spring. Buying a gun secondhand is a good moment to check which connector it actually carries before assuming.
