Effective Range

Effective range is the practical distance a gun can reliably hit a person-sized target, which is usually far shorter than its maximum FPS alone would suggest.

Muzzle velocity sets a ceiling, but real effective range comes from the combination of BB weight, barrel quality, hop-up tune and even ambient wind — two guns chronoing identically can have noticeably different practical range depending on how well everything else is dialed in.

Field context also changes what "effective" means: a CQB engagement rarely needs range past 20–25 metres, while an open-field DMR role is built specifically to extend it. Claims of extreme range are usually measured under ideal, wind-free conditions that rarely match a real game, so most experienced players judge a gun by consistent hits at a realistic distance rather than a single best-case number.

A practical way to actually find a gun's effective range is a simple man-sized target test at increasing distances rather than trusting an advertised number, since the two figures can differ by many metres depending on the specific build.
