DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle)
A DMR is a semi-auto-only rifle built for range over rate of fire, running near the field's upper energy limit with a longer, tighter barrel.
Unlike a bolt-action sniper platform, a DMR keeps semi-automatic fire — usually an AEG or GBBR mechanism with full-auto disabled or simply never selected — while pushing muzzle energy toward whatever cap a field allows for single-shot semi-auto weapons, well above a standard rifle's limit.
The build typically pairs a tightbore inner barrel with a heavier hop-up setup and a higher spring rating or upgraded HPA regulator, trading close-range spray for hits at effective ranges an AEG carbine can't reach. Fields that allow DMRs almost always require chronoing them separately and enforce a longer minimum engagement distance to match the added energy.
Not every field allows DMRs at all, and those that do often cap how many a team can field at once, since a lane of DMR fire can dominate an open engagement if left unchecked — worth confirming before building one.
